HBO’s Harry Potter series has cast its three main characters: Dominic McLaughlin as titular hero Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
Executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod spoke of finally finding actors for Harry, Hermione, and Ron for the anticipated show in a news release on Tuesday.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said Gardiner and Mylod in a statement. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
The trio of young actors now join a growing cast for the reimagining of the Harry Potter book series, which includes Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
HBO said that the Harry Potter reboot will be “a faithful adaptation of the beloved books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling” with “each season [bringing] Harry Potter to new and existing audiences.”
