Apple formally announced the iPhone 17 lineup earlier this week, finally spilling everything you need to know about its newest devices. If you're looking to upgrade, you've got an opportunity to buy an iPhone 17 or iPhone Air starting today ahead of the official September 19 release date. The main place you'll find unlocked models is directly from Apple, but every major carrier has some sort of promotion going on today.
As expected, upgrading to an iPhone 17 is going to leave an impact on your wallet, especially if you opt for one of the higher-tier models. The iPhone 17 starts at a fairly standard flagship price of $799, while the new ultra-thin iPhone Air comes in at $999 and the iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099. All of these start at 256GB, but you can obviously expect price increases across the board for additional storage.
Where to Buy the New iPhones Unlocked
If you buy an unlocked iPhone 17 from the Apple website, you'll have an opportunity to trade in your old device for $200-$700, as long as it's an iPhone 13 or above. Alternatively, carrier-specific deals include up to $1,100 in credit after a trade-in at AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Boost Mobile offers up to $830 in credit when buying an iPhone 17 with no trade-in required.
If you're wondering whether the iPhone 17 is worth the upgrade from your current iPhone, that may depend on how old your current device is. The iPhone 17 family is certainly sporting some improvements fans have long asked for, so if you're rocking an iPhone 15 or older, it may be a good year to make the jump to a new model.
The base iPhone 17 now sports a 6.3-inch 120Hz ProMotion display, faster 35W charging speeds, and an improved 18MP selfie camera. Meanwhile, the new iPhone 17 Air replaces previous-generation Plus models with a super-slim form factor and a powerful A19 Pro chip, as well as a lot of impressive features packed into a single rear camera.
Stepping up a notch further, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are also powered by the A19 Pro chip with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch 120Hz ProMotion displays, respectively. These models feature a 24MP selfie upgrade and a triple 48MP rear camera array. Coupled with their larger batteries, these are the right move for power users seeking the best phone in the lineup.
iPhone 17 Carrier Deals
All of the major carriers have some sort of promotion for the new iPhones going on right now. You can find these offers either directly through the carrier's website or via retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, or Apple direct.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile has a couple of different offers available. The first is up to $1,100 off the new iPhone Pro when you sign up for a new line on the Experience Beyond Plan with AutoPay and trade-in your existing phone. How much you get in trade-in credits is dependent on which phone you trade-in. The other offer available is the 'Apple iPhone On Us' deal that gets you an Apple iPhone 17 when you switch over from a competing service. You can check out our full explainer on the T-Mobile iPhone 17 deals for more info.
Verizon
Similar to T-Mobile, Verizon has one major promotion available. The first is a 'new iPhone 17 Pro on Us' promotion for new and existing customers. It requires select phone trade-in and an Unlimited Ultimate line, however, so not every customer applies. The same offer applies to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but only up to $1,100 in potential credits (which is how much the 256GB version costs).
AT&T
AT&T is offering a trade-in deal for up to $1,100 off the iPhone 17 Pro models or $830 off the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air. How much you actually get in trade-in credits depends on what generation iPhone you have and only goes back to the iPhone 13 in terms of eligbility. The offer is only available to those with a postpaid unlimited voice and data plan starting at $75.99 per month. AT&T also states in the fine print that this promotion is subject to change at literally any time, so make sure you check the details before you make a purchase.
Xfinity Mobile
Xfinity also has an 'iPhone 17 Pro on Us' offer that looks pretty similar to all of the other ones. The first major requirement is that you'll need an Xfinity or Now internet plan to be eligible. The offer also requires a qualifying phone trade-in as well as a 24-month Xfinity Mobile payment plan agreement. The offer details don't directly state which iPhone generations are eligible for trade-in, but this promotion extends until October 9, so there's no rush to figure it out.
More New Apple Devices Up for Preorder
Alongside the new iPhone models, Apple also announced the AirPods Pro 3 and three new Apple Watch models. Those devices are all up for preorder now and will be released alongside the iPhone 17 on September 19.
