Off The Grid launched in early access on PC and consoles in 2024, but until now, Gunzilla’s free-to-play battle royale has been missing from Steam’s storefront. That is no longer the case as Off The Grid is available to download and play for free on Steam right now, complete with full cross-platform support on PlayStation and Xbox. 

The free-to-play title has steadily gained popularity since that time, thanks to its fluid third-person, fast paced gameplay, vast array of looting possibilities, and consistent, thoughtfully crafted updates that keep the in-game experience fresh. Players are especially drawn to Off The Grid’s unique mechanic of switchable cyberlimbs, which grant special abilities and make each session feel completely different from the last. These cyberlimbs can be looted from the map, stolen from other players, or purchased through the player-to-player marketplace — offering a wide range of distinctive abilities and customization options.

Revealed in 2023 before launching into early access a year later, Off The Grid combines the battle royale genre with a cyberpunk aesthetic, all with the help of legendary director, Neill Blomkamp. Best known for 2009 blockbuster District 9, it’s easy to see how the director has helped shape Off The Grid‘s look and lore. Set on Teardrop Island, players must fight each other, not only with powerful, cyberpunk weapons, but also using cybernetic prosthetics. Up to 60 players compete in each match, and now even more of you will be able to drop in and gear up thanks to Off The Grid’s highly-anticipated arrival on Steam.

Steam Players Are Getting The Best Version Of Off The Grid Yet, And It Will Only Continue To Evolve

On top of having cross-platform enabled, the ever-evolving nature of Off The Grid means players jumping on the bandwagon via Steam are getting the best version of the game yet, and it’s only going to keep getting better. The latest updates, which are now live, include two new deathmatch arenas, a new playable part of Teardrop Island, and the OTG Pro Battle Pass for you to progress through and unlock various new cosmetic items.

As with any game in early access, Gunzilla is eager to hear and respond to feedback from a whole new player base now that Off The Grid is finally available on Steam. The team behind the live service shooter has been listening to Off The Grid‘s players since launch, tweaking and adding weapons and prosthetics, and making enhancements to the game based on what those of you playing have been reporting back.

Those improvements won’t stop here, of course, and the next few stops on the Off The Grid roadmap are already in place. Gunzilla has teased new gameplay elements and community-driven experiences are on the horizon, some of which will go down as soon as July.
