Lewis LaRosa has long since established himself as one of the most detailed and dynamic artists in the world of superhero comics, thanks to books like Bloodshot, Uncanny X-Men, Punisher MAX, and X-O Manowar. Now, LaRosa's long, prolific career is being celebrated in a new art book dubbed Carbon Based: The Art of Lewis LaRosa.
With the Kickstarter campaign for Carbon Based: The Art of Lewis LaRosa live now, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of this stunning art book. Get a closer look in the slideshow gallery below:
Carbon Based is a deluxe 10" x 12" hardcover book that features more than 250 pages of illustrations, from sketches and process art to completed interior pages and cover art. The book also features commentary by LaRosa and former Valiant Editor-in-Chief Warren Simons, along with contributions from colleagues like Lee Bermejo, Dave Johnson, and Yanick Paquette. Carbon Based in published by Oni Press.
"Growing up on testosterone-soaked '80s action movies, Bloodshot fits right in my wheelhouse," LaRosa tells IGN about the excerpt above. "I've always had a soft spot for dark, dangerous, angry characters. I've always loved drawing a muscular physique, no holds barred violence, gun fights, sword play, gritted teeth, pupil-less eyes, combat gear, and powerful iconography. Bloodshot fits the bill to a T. His pale skin, red eyes, and big red circle on his chest are such a simple but effective design, the perfect canvas to create some of the most intense imagery possible in comics art."
The Kickstarter campaign for Carbon Based features numerous optional extras, from signed and remarqued editions to a portfolio of LaRosa's Valiant covers to T-shirts to a limited number of art commissions.
