I’ve been rifling through the latest discounts, and today seems fairly McChockers with heavy hitters across all platforms. From magical duels to space-faring shootouts, the bargains are diverse and genuinely tempting. Enough preamble, though. I'd much rather be saving than typing.

This Day in Gaming ?

In retro news, I’m lighting 17 candles on a cake baked for Trauma Center: Second Opinion, the surgical sim that turned my Wiimote into a scalpel for better or worse. (Mostly worse.) Back in 2008, few games dared to marry high-stakes medical drama with twitchy motion-controlled gameplay, and yet Atlus did just that, handing us the scalpel, forceps, and adrenaline shots to save lives under impossible pressure. It was tense, it was odd, and it was unforgettable.

I remember the thrill of pulling off a perfect suture as the on-screen vitals flatlined, or the sheer terror of battling the game’s bizarre “medical” enemies, like the microscopic GUILT parasites. Trauma Center wasn’t just about steady hands; it was about nerves of steel, and it made you feel like every flick of the wrist was the difference between life and death. It carved itself a cult following and proved the Wii could deliver more than party games. Somebody remaster me this series. Stat.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

On Nintendo, Hogwarts Legacy is a steal for those who missed its belated arrival on Switch. It may not match its beefier console cousins in fidelity, but the magic of exploring Hogwarts still holds true. Meanwhile, Celeste remains one of the best indie platformers ever crafted, and knowing its entire design stemmed from a game jam prototype makes it even more impressive.

  • Mario Kart World (-21%)A$95 A family favourite that never stops giving. Slipstream mates, lob shells, then laugh at the chaos you’ve caused. Still the king of living room rivalry.
  • Split Fiction (-23%)A$54 A stylish narrative adventure that twists perception. Half puzzle box, half story experiment, and all clever. Perfect for players who enjoy head-scratching over button mashing.
  • Hogwarts Legacy (-80%)A$17.90 Roam Hogwarts with wand in hand. This magical open-world RPG is bursting with spells, secrets, and wizarding drama. A massive bang-for-buck at this price.
  • GTA Trilogy Def. (-63%)A$29.90 Three iconic crime sprees remastered. Relive the mayhem of Vice City, San Andreas, and Liberty City. Not flawless, but still nostalgia-fuelled carnage on a budget.
  • Mortal Kombat 11 (-90%)A$6.90 Brutal fighters, bone-crunching finishers, and endless gore. At this price, even casual kombatants can justify a few rounds of ridiculous, spine-shattering fun.
  • Celeste (-75%)A$7.50 A platforming masterpiece wrapped in heartfelt storytelling. Tight controls and emotional beats combine for one of indie gaming’s crown jewels. Bring tissues.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

On Xbox Series X, Mass Effect Legendary Ed. is a no-brainer at under ten bucks. Fun fact, the original trilogy almost had cut content involving Shepard fighting a human Reaper, which the remaster’s codex cheekily references. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy also shines brighter than the MCU’s version, thanks to its heartfelt narrative penned by Eidos Montréal’s writing team.

  • Space Marine 2 (-45%)A$59.30 Chainswords, bolters, and Tyranids everywhere. A chunky shooter for anyone who likes their sci-fi extra grimdark and loud.
  • Persona 5 Tactica (-70%)A$28.40 The Phantom Thieves return with strategy gameplay this time. Quirky art, catchy tunes, and surprisingly deep tactics for turn-based fans.
  • Mass Effect Leg. Ed. (-90%)A$9.90 Three epic RPGs in one slick package. Shepard’s galaxy-spanning space opera is still peak sci-fi storytelling.
  • Shin Megami Tensei V (-55%)A$44.90 A dark, demon-collecting RPG where choices matter. It’s punishing, stylish, and perfect for players who love being tested.
  • Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (-85%)A$14.90 An underrated gem. Fun banter, flashy combat, and a surprisingly heartfelt story about misfits saving the galaxy.

Xbox One

  • Lego Harry Potter Col. (-75%)A$7.40 Hogwarts rebuilt in Lego form. Whimsical humour, plenty of bricks to smash, and co-op wizarding for all ages.
  • Sonic Colors: Ult. (-70%)A$17.90 One of Sonic’s brighter comebacks. Zippy levels, cheerful vibes, and less of the series’ infamous jank.
  • Unravel Two (-75%)A$7.40 Two yarn creatures, one emotional adventure. A relaxing co-op platformer woven with charm and heart.
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 (-90%)A$8.90 A goofy Marvel mash-up where Spider-Man and Groot are equally hilarious. Big roster, even bigger silliness.

Pure Scores for PlayStation

On PS5, Alan Wake 2 Del. Ed. is my top pick, with Remedy’s creative director Sam Lake even cameoing as a background character in the game. That’s dedication. The Witcher 3 still holds up thanks to CD Projekt’s attention to detail, right down to Geralt’s beard growing in real-time unless you get it trimmed.

  • Alan Wake 2 Del. Ed. (-70%)A$36.20 Remedy’s horror sequel cranks up the creep factor. Atmospheric storytelling meets flashlight-fuelled terror.
  • Live A Live (-60%)A$30.30 A cult JRPG reborn with gorgeous HD-2D visuals. Multiple characters, timelines, and play styles.
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (-80%)A$9.50 Geralt’s magnum opus. Hundreds of hours of monster slaying, romance, and political scheming for less than a pub lunch.
  • Gris (-75%)A$4.40 An art piece disguised as a platformer. Stunning visuals, moving music, and soul-soothing play.
  • Star Wars Outlaws (-55%)A$49.40 Scoundrels, speeder bikes, and blaster fights. It’s Star Wars without the Jedi baggage, and it’s all the better for it.

Purchase Cheap for PC

On PC, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut remains a masterclass in writing, famously written by Estonian novelist Robert Kurvitz who later lost the rights to his own creation. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Col. also shines on PC, its lush jungle visuals benefitting massively from ultrawide support.

  • RoboCop: Rogue City (-92%)A$5.80 Serve the public trust, protect the innocent, and buy this for the price of a coffee.
  • Disco Elysium – The Final Cut (-78%)A$12.50 A dialogue-heavy detective RPG where your inner voices never shut up. Clever, darkly funny, and unforgettable.
  • Dying Light: Def. Ed. (-84%)A$15.50 Parkour plus zombies equals frantic fun. Still the best rooftop-runner-slash-zombie-smash-em-up.
  • Lies of P (-50%)A$44.90 A Soulslike where Pinocchio wields swords and looks far cooler than he ever did in Disney.
  • Uncharted: LoT Col. (-64%)A$26.90 Nathan Drake’s swashbuckling adventures polished for PC. Still blockbuster cinema in game form.
