Production is officially underway on the HBO Original Harry Potter television series at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., and we’ve got our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as the titular wizard himself.
The latest casting news also includes four newcomers to the show: Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey (Sherlock, Back) as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser (Andor, Game of Thrones) as the iconic wandmaker Garrick Ollivander.

Previously announced stars include Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore.
HBO first announced its Harry Potter television reboot in 2023, unveiling plans for a “decade-long series” that would adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling’s books. The company pledged the show would be “produced with the same epic craft, love, and care this global franchise is known for.” Rowling herself expressed enthusiasm for the format, noting that a long-form series “will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by television.”

The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials), with Emmy-winning director Mark Mylod set to executive produce and direct multiple episodes. The production is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers also include Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts for Brontë Film and TV, alongside David Heyman (Harry Potter film series, Paddington) for Heyday Films.
The highly anticipated series is set to debut in 2027 on HBO and the newly renamed HBO Max streaming platform, including in new international launch markets such as Germany, Italy, and the U.K.
