Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. There's just something so satisfying about being able to walk outside on a brisk fall morning and witness whatever fresh horrors my neighbors have decided to display in their yards. And while I'm not a fan of every Halloween decoration, there's one that always fills my heart with joy when I see it: A giant skeleton.
When the huge skeletons start going up, that to me is the true signal that fall has arrived. It's not when the leaves start falling from the trees or when the summer temperatures begin to cool, it's that first burning gaze from 12-foot skeleton that reminds me that spooky times are finally back. Even though we're only a couple of weeks into September, some folks in my neighborhood are already hoisting those massive Skelly bones into place. I couldn't be happier about it.
Where to Buy the 12-Foot Skeleton in 2025
There are a few different places you can get a 12-foot skeleton of your own, but the one you're seeing in your neighborhood is most likely the Skelly from Home Depot. The home-improvement retailer has been selling these massive skeletons since all the way back in 2020, and popularity for them has only grown year after year.
The only catch? There are only so many skellies in stock at store locations at any given time. This year's version officially became available on August 4. It's early enough in the season that you should be able to get one for yourself before they go completely out of stock. I'm still seeing 10 of these bad boys available at my local Home Depot.
At $299, the giant skelly isn't exactly cheap, but it's pretty affordable compared to a lot of the larger Halloween decorations available. The whole thing weighs just over 59 pounds, and you'll need to be able to plug it in somewhere if you want the eyes to light up. Home Depot also has a 90-day return policy that applies to this skeleton if something goes wrong or you change your mind about your purchase.
I've wanted one of those giant skeletons for my own yard since I first started seeing them looming over the sidewalks years ago, but sadly I just don't have anywhere to store one during the other seasons. If you have the means, the space available, and the bone-clad will to get one of these for your own decorations this year, I highly recommend you do. But only because I selfishly want to see more giant skeletons everywhere I go.
Is it too early to put up Halloween decorations?
In my opinion, there's no such thing as "too early" when it comes to Halloween decorations. There's a house in my neighborhood that has permanently installed a giant metal spider to the trees overhanging a public sidewalk and I am pleased to walk by it every time I go to get coffee, regardless of the time of year. If you want to put up some Halloween decorations before October starts, I say more power to you. And if you feel like leaving those decorations up beyond October 31 I say GREAT. The longer we can keep the Christmas decorations at bay and the spookiness in season, the better.
Woot is having a Spooktacular Savings clearance event and there's some decent stuff in here. I'd say it's worth checking out the full sale for yourself, but I'll thread some of the best things here too. https://t.co/213XnWyrCb pic.twitter.com/MHPjwkw28I
